Seeds High School
Education beyond eighth grade is critical to advancing beyond no jobs or low-wage jobs. Those with only an eighth-grade education have higher unemployment rates and lower earnings. High School education is essential to knowledge building, skill enhancement, and dispositional development, all necessary for transitioning successfully into higher education and/or the workforce.
The Story of Seeds High School
Before 2017, graduates from the eighth grade transitioned to boarding schools throughout Kenya for secondary education. The expense often “push” orphans and vulnerable youth out of school.
The Makanis had an ambitious plan; a plan to build a high school for Seeds eighth-grade graduates. The plan required thoughtful, committed people whose sacrifice would make a secondary education more likely.
In 2017, Seeds graduates began attending a newly built high school with a dining hall and kitchen. Today, they have a dorm for the young ladies and are completing a dorm for the young men. The roots are planted.
While the Seeds High School is more than a seedling, it is not full-grown. Full growth requires the construction of an approximately $275,000 building that includes a library, science lab, computer lab, and offices.
Once completed, Seeds High School can be certified and marketed as a viable education for youth throughout Kenya. At that time, it becomes an income-saver and income-generator investment to help sustain the many Seeds Ministries.
